It may be one of the greenest spaces in Palmers Green and Southgate but for the four Sunday afternoons in August the Bandstand in Broomfield Park sure will have the blues!

The Bandstand Blues series is now in its sixth year and brings you the best in local, UK and International blues music. St Harmonica’s Blues Club, now in its 10th year and located at the prestigious Southgate Club has been nominated as Best Blues Venue in the UK Blues Forum’s annual awards and together with the Friends of Broomfield Park they showcase the best of what can be seen at the club every Friday at Broomfield Park in August starting at 1.30pm.

Each Sunday has a theme which kicks off on 4th August with ‘Women Sing the Blues’ featuring Debbie Bond from Alabama USA who has a history steeped in the blues and who has played with some of the finest artists in America. Professor Redhair Band and That Blue Patch complete the first day’s line up. The following Sundays see acts that are just as talented; ‘Harmonica Blues’ is the theme on 11th August with Doc K’s Blues Band and The Customtones; ‘Acoustic Blues’ with the Mark Harrison Band and the remarkable Anglo/American duo of Ben TyzackandGuy Tortora appear on 18th August and over the bank holiday weekend, 25th August The Low Down Dogs and the absolutely magnificent Blues Chapter bring the series to a close with the Old and the New.

There is a terrific bar with food available at each event along with a Friends of Broomfield stall offering local goods. There really isn’t a better way to spend an August Sunday afternoon and even the weather won’t beat us because, if it absolutely pours, we will relocate for the afternoon to St Harmonicas Blues Club’s home at the Southgate Club.

Each afternoon is preceded at 1.30pm with an open mic session for an hour (pre register for a slot at ). Just as at St Harmonicas Blues Club, admission is free and, if you like what you hear, all we ask is that you acknowledge that by contributing to the collection “hat”, either when it does the rounds, or via the control site.
